Ben Kuenzel Architecture had developed the design for a property which this family wanted to purchase. Unfortunately the sale fell through. When they successfully found another house they came back to our practice for the architectural services. The house they bought on Heyworth Road was rather spacious with 180m2 and 6 bedrooms but in a bad condition. More then half of the house was not inhabited and rooms had finishes removed and the structure exposed, other rooms were full with storage and neglected.

The client was determined to change the floor layout of most floors and to refurbish the house throughout. They also decided to extend the house on three levels. A generous utility room was gained in the basement by excavating as far as possible without underpinning to reduce the costs for this more practical part of the house they needed. A single storey wrap around extension was added on the ground floor to create a spacious well lit kitchen dining room with a lounge area. The loft was extended to create a new master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. This freed the space on the other storeys to achieve three good sized bedrooms for their daughters and a 12 sqm room that can be used as work space by the parents.

Ben Kuenzel Architecture worked in a team with interior designer Lomax & Chi and HOS Landscapes to refurbish the 3-storey Victorian terrace.
